Resurfacing

It’s amazing that my last post was more than a year ago, and (not so) coincidentally mentions my struggles with my health. It’s also kind of hilarious that me taking a break meant training to climb a 19K ft mountain. Hopefully more on that later…

As it turns out a lot of my problems stem from the fact that I have an autoimmune disease. I do not have asthma, I do not have whatever the fuck chronic fatigue is, I do not have tennis elbow in literally every single joint in my body, I do not have some weird mysterious infection that requires low-dose antibiotics, I don’t have tumors in my heart (that was a fun one)…etc, etc… more importantly, I so do not need to be dosed out of my mind on painkillers every waking moment.

My rheumatologist was so angry at my medical history she could not form full sentences (although my story is unfortunately not at all unique or uncommon).

Anyways, despite my health getting consecutively worse over the last several years, I’ve still managed to maintain a somewhat normal, surprisingly active life, that was just exceptionally exhausting. Soon I’ll be starting immune suppression therapy, which I am so excited about. I honestly can’t explain how excited I am about the possibility of being able to run again, of being able to climb without pain, of simply being able to sleep through the night and be touched without pain. The hope is that in addition to the pain relief I will also gain my energy back, since my body wont be using all it’s energy to attack itself. Hopefully this will leave me with more energy to post things, and do other cool stuff. We’ll see. I’m still skeptical because honestly what my doctor is selling sounds too good to be true.

In the meantime, here is a picture of my cat.
